Renée Perry Mitchell is a proud Virginian. She started her training at the original Tidewater Magnet School for the Arts and Virginia’s statewide Governor’s School at Radford University. She graduated with honors from East Carolina University, receiving a Bachelor of Music in Voice, concentrating in musical theatre. After college, she toured the Eastern Caribbean as a lead singer/dancer with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
Renée started her training in NY at the Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive before auditioning for the Radio City Rockettes. Renee performed as one of the world-famous Radio City Rockettes for nine years in New York City and Las Vegas. During that time, she performed annually at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular; the Macy’s Day Parade; the Spring Spectacular, and on the David Letterman Show, the Today Show, Good Morning America and the televised lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center – as well as the world premiere of the movie, Miracle on 34th Street.
Renée is also accomplished as a choreographer. She was Assistant Choreographer for Thunder, a tap piece for the Rockettes; Choreographer for the Rockettes performing with American Olympians at the Rockefeller Center Ice Rink; choreographer for National conventions for Sony and TV Guide; as well as a runway show at New York’s Waldorf Astoria. Renee has served as Director/Choreographer for such shows as Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., High School Musical Jr, Guys and Dolls Jr., 42nd Street, Damn Yankees, SHREK the Musical, Little Women and Mary Poppins, and has produced multiple shows in the Hampton Roads area. She also serves as choreographer and artistic director for her own award-wining rpm dance COMPANY.
Utilizing her vocal gift, Renée served as the original musical director for Project Dance, and has served as lead vocalist in multiple venues throughout the United States, such as the New York Film Academy, where she performed her original songs. Internationally, Renee traveled throughout the Middle East as Assistant and featured dancer with Master Illusionist Andre Kole.
As an educator, Renée has taught and choreographed throughout the country. From New York to Las Vegas and back to Virginia Renée has taught in studios, conservatories and Schools of the Arts. In addition to owning her own studio rpm dance, she has enjoyed teaching at Virginia’s Governor’s School for the Arts, Virginia’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy, Nansemond Suffolk Academy and Regent University.
Renée has served as a talent judge throughout the country with the talent competition, STARPOWER, and now travels in the tri-state area competing with the rpm dance COMPANY. Renee’s favorite role is “mom” to two budding artists, Twyla and Zoey, followed by joyfully serving as Artistic Director and Founder of her own studio, rpm dance. rpm dance specializes in training triple threats and world changers.
